Montréal Dog-Friendly Patios: 10 Places & Pet Rules

Montréal has some wonderful places to sit outside with your dog, but the rules are not identical at every patio. This guide distinguishes venues that publish dog policies themselves from places where access is supported by third-party reports and should be confirmed with staff. Details were reviewed October 16, 2026, and can change with weather, seasons and venue management.

What changed in this 2026 update: We removed permanently closed Cordova and other older entries without reliable current dog-access confirmation, including seasonally closed or uncertain patios. The ten replacements and retained venues below have documented locations, direct links and specific notes about what is known rather than a blanket promise that every patio accepts dogs.

Important Québec rule: Québec allows food businesses to admit dogs to outdoor service terraces if the operator chooses. Dogs must be controlled on leashes no longer than 1.85 m, and dogs weighing 20 kg or more require a harness or head halter. Other food-hygiene and access requirements apply; venue rules may be stricter. See the Québec government's current official guidance. Ask for permission before sitting down.

1. Messorem Bracitorium — patio only

What to check before bringing your dog to a Montréal terrace

Ask whether the patio is open, whether your dog's size and temperament meet its rules, how to enter without walking through a restricted food-service area, and whether a reservation is possible. Bring a leash, water, and a mat for your dog; allow other diners room to move. Some pubs allow dogs only outdoors, and several cafés have seasonal outdoor seating.
