10 Toronto Cafés for Dog Owners: Patios & Coffee Stops

Ten Toronto coffee stops, including dog-friendly patio reports from the Riverside Business Improvement Area and locations to call before visiting.

10 Toronto Cafés for Dog Owners: Patios & Coffee Stops

Toronto offers plenty of ways to pair a great coffee with a walk, from Riverside to Roncesvalles and Trinity Bellwoods. But a café near a park—or one that offers outdoor seats—is not automatically a café that admits dogs. In this October 16, 2026 review we distinguish documented dog-friendly patios, third-party dog-access reports and operating cafés where takeaway or a call ahead is the sensible option.

Dog-access evidence: The Riverside Business Improvement Area specifically lists Jimmy’s Coffee and Dark Horse Espresso Bar as dog-friendly patio stops. Other venues have varying levels of evidence. Always confirm the individual location’s current pet rule and seasonal patio availability before leaving home. Read the neighbourhood dog-friendly business guide.

Ontario food safety: Ontario Regulation 493/17 permits dogs in outdoor eating areas where food is not prepared and also provides limited indoor exceptions for qualifying low-risk food premises. This does not require an individual café to admit pets. Service animals are treated separately. Official Ontario Food Premises Regulation.

1. Bobbette & Belle — Leslieville

Address: 1121 Queen Street East, Toronto, ON M4M 1K9. Phone: 416-466-8800. Operator: Official locations and hours.

This independent Leslieville patisserie is known for macarons, cakes and coffee. Its own site confirms the branch and contact information, but does not publish a current pet-admission or patio dog policy. Ask before planning to sit with your dog; takeaway for a Queen East walk is a practical alternative. The shop lists Tuesday–Sunday hours and is closed Mondays.

2. Dineen Coffee Co. — Yonge Street

Address: 140 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON M5C 1X6. Phone: 416-900-0949. Operator: Official café locations.

Dineen occupies a historic Financial District building and publishes photos of its outdoor patio. Some business listings report that dogs are allowed, but the operator does not clearly publish which seating areas admit pets. Dog access: third-party report; patio permission must be reconfirmed. The Yonge Street location is open weekdays and weekends, with hours on its official site.

3. Boxcar Social — Summerhill

Address: 1208 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON M4T 1W1. Office contact: 844-726-9227. Operator: Summerhill café and patio and contact details.

Boxcar confirms that its original Summerhill coffee-and-wine bar has a back patio. Visitors report pet-friendly patio experiences, but a current formal policy from the operator was not found. Dog access: patio exists; dog seating not operator-confirmed. Contact the Summerhill branch before visiting. Note: Boxcar’s Harbourfront venue is a separate location affected by the Harbourfront Centre closure from October 5 to 18, 2026.

4. Jimmy’s Coffee — Queen East

Address: 806 Queen Street East, Toronto, ON M4M 1H7. Website: Jimmy’s locations.

Jimmy’s Riverside café has a spacious back patio. The Riverside Business Improvement Area specifically lists it as a dog-friendly patio stop. Check seasonal patio access and ask staff how to reach the patio without taking your dog into restricted food-service areas. Riverside BIA dog-friendly guide.

5. Pilot Coffee Roasters — Queen East

Address: 983 Queen Street East, Toronto, ON M4M 1K2. Contact: Official Queen East café page.

The operator confirms this café at 983 Queen Street East—the location formerly known as Te Aro, which was incorrectly counted separately in the old list. Enjoy a specialty coffee before a Leslieville walk, but note that the operator's current page does not verify indoor or patio dog access. Call first if you want to sit; takeaway is the safer default.

6. Sam James Coffee Bar — Ossington

Address: 141 Ossington Avenue, Toronto, ON. Main contact: 416-604-2572. Operator: Ossington café details.

Sam James confirms two sidewalk benches outside this espresso-focused branch. Those make a neighbourhood coffee pickup easy, but the business does not state that pets may enter or that the benches operate as a dog-friendly patio. Dog access: unconfirmed; use takeaway or ask staff. The Harbord, Parkdale and PATH branches have different layouts and should not be treated as interchangeable.

7. White Squirrel Coffee Shop — Trinity Bellwoods

Address: 907 Queen Street West, Toronto, ON M6J 1G5. Phone: 647-428-4478. Operator: Official contact and location.

This Queen West coffee shop advertises service from a small café window opposite Trinity Bellwoods Park. That makes it convenient for pickup on a neighbourhood dog walk without making assumptions about dogs indoors. Dog access: outdoor pickup is confirmed, seated pet access is not. Check park leash and off-leash-zone rules separately.

8. Dark Horse Espresso Bar — Queen East

Address: 630 Queen Street East, Toronto, ON M4M 1G3. Phone: 647-436-3460. Website: Official café page.

Dark Horse serves espresso, matcha and baked goods in Riverside. The neighbourhood business association identifies its seasonal patio as dog-friendly, and the operator confirms this branch and address. Confirm patio seating before travelling. Riverside BIA dog-access report.

9. Hailed Coffee — Riverdale

Address: 801 Gerrard Street East, Toronto, ON M4M 1Y5. Phone: 647-352-4040. Operator: Official locations and contact.

Hailed serves cardamom-flavoured coffee and chocolate treats at its Riverdale shop. The previous article wrongly placed this business in Kensington Market; its official website lists Riverdale, College Park and Elizabeth Street locations instead. Dog access: not operator-confirmed for this branch. Ask staff before expecting dog seating or choose a takeaway coffee.

10. Reunion Coffee Roasters — Roncesvalles

Address: 385 Roncesvalles Avenue, Toronto, ON M6R 2N1. Phone: 416-551-3431. Operator: Official flagship café information.

Reunion's flagship café is in Roncesvalles, not on Queen West as the previous article claimed. The operator confirms its daily opening hours and contact information, but does not publish a current pet-admission policy. Dog access: unconfirmed; ask about patio or indoor rules before visiting. The café lists cafe@reunioncoffeeroasters.com for inquiries.

Visiting Dog-Friendly Cafés: A Few Simple Etiquette Tips

Toronto's dog-friendly café culture works because owners help keep it enjoyable for everyone. Before settling in, remember a few simple guidelines:

  • Always confirm the café's current dog policy before visiting, especially during colder months when patio seating may close.

  • Keep your dog leashed and close to your table.

  • Bring a collapsible water bowl if one isn't available.

  • Avoid visiting during peak lunch hours if your dog is still learning to stay settled in busy environments.

  • Clean up after your dog immediately and be respectful of other guests.
