Dog-Friendly Winter Weekend Escapes from Toronto (2026–27)
Three winter weekends from Toronto: Muskoka, Collingwood and Kingston, with verified pet-friendly stays, winter walks and practical two-night plans.

For a dog-friendly winter weekend within driving distance of Toronto, choose Huntsville for a snowy resort break, Collingwood for Georgian Bay walks, or Kingston for a waterfront suite and woodland outings. Each offers a different pace, with specific pet-friendly accommodation and outdoor options you can check before committing to the drive.
The best winter escape leaves room for a late breakfast, a proper sniff around somewhere beautiful and an afternoon when nobody needs to get back in the car. You do not need to ski, book a packed activity schedule or persuade your dog to enjoy a crowded festival. Pick one base for two nights and let the weather help shape the day.
This guide is for winter 2026–27 planning. Hotel policies and trail information were checked on November 2, 2026; winter operations depend on conditions. Driving times below are broad planning estimates from central Toronto in clear conditions, before traffic, breaks or snow. Check your actual starting point and Ontario 511 before departure.
Choose your weekend
Huntsville and Muskoka: allow roughly 2½–3½ hours each way. Choose it for a resort room, forest scenery and a snowshoe outing rather than a long touring route.
Collingwood: allow roughly 2–3 hours each way. Choose it for a one-dog getaway with short town-and-trail outings and Georgian Bay views.
Kingston: allow roughly 3–4 hours each way. Choose it for a suite with a kitchenette, historic streets and a separate woodland excursion.
These are alternatives, not three stops on one weekend. If Friday already looks like a difficult drive, choose the closer base or postpone. A room reservation should not turn a winter weather warning into a challenge.
Build your weekend in the Pawtastic Vacation Planner, then confirm the room, pet rules and seasonal access directly with each operator. For more ideas across the country, explore our Seasonal Adventures With Your Dog hub.
1. Huntsville: a Muskoka weekend with somewhere warm to return to

Muskoka in winter rewards a slower kind of holiday. The water becomes part of the backdrop rather than the day's activity, and the woods take centre stage. Make Huntsville your base if your ideal weekend involves outdoor time followed by several very comfortable hours doing very little.
Stay: Deerhurst Resort
Deerhurst accepts up to two pets in designated Pavilion accommodation. Request the pet-friendly room specifically. The resort lists a C$50 fee per room, per stay; its linked waiver clarifies C$50 plus tax for stays of up to five nights. That makes the published pet charge C$50 plus tax for this suggested two-night visit, before the room and other applicable charges.
Dogs must remain leashed outside the room. Restaurants, pools, fitness facilities and meeting rooms are excluded, as are the main waterfront and beach. Use the resort's pet-area map rather than assuming every path is available. Guest Services can point you toward local pet retailers, groomers and veterinary services. The waiver requires owners to return if a dog left in the room disturbs others; confirm any additional unattended-pet conditions before planning an evening out. Official room policy and pet waiver and access map.
Your winter outing: Arrowhead's designated snowshoe trails
Arrowhead is the natural day-trip option, but the famous ice-skating trail is not a dog activity. Pets are prohibited on both the skating trail and ski trails. Choose an appropriate designated snowshoe route instead, confirm the day's permitted dog route with park staff and keep your dog on a leash no longer than two metres.
The official winter map separates snowshoe routes from ski tracks and marks Stubb's Falls at 2 km and Mayflower Lake at 1.5–2 km. Treat those as route choices to discuss at arrival, not a promise of easy footing. Start with one manageable outing and turn around if ice, deep snow or your dog's enthusiasm says enough. Check the current snow report and reserve vehicle access when required. Arrowhead winter trail map, official winter visitor guidance and Ontario Parks dog rules.
Do not substitute a summer waterfront itinerary without checking it. Huntsville's municipal trails are not winter-maintained, and seasonal closures affect some familiar routes. In particular, the Town's October 2025 seasonal notice identifies the Hunter's Bay extension beside Highway 11 for closure after the first snow. Check current notices rather than relying on a photograph of the floating boardwalk. Town seasonal operations guidance.
A worthwhile stop on the drive
Muskoka Brewery in Bracebridge offers something unusually helpful on a winter dog trip: its official policy welcomes leashed, accompanied dogs inside the Taproom as well as outside. It serves shareable snacks, with a changing menu, and regular seating is first come, first served. This is a possible arrival or homeward stop, not a guaranteed full dinner. Check hours and food availability; the seasonal food truck is not a winter assumption. Choose a non-alcoholic option if you are driving. Taproom details and dog policy.
Our suggested rhythm: arrive Friday before dark, settle in and take a short permitted walk. Give Saturday morning to Arrowhead, then return for a quiet afternoon. On Sunday, leave enough time for a comfortable break on the southbound drive. Our Toronto-to-Muskoka road-trip guide offers more corridor ideas, but check each stop's winter opening separately.
2. Collingwood: Georgian Bay scenery without making skiing the point

You can enjoy this corner of Ontario without spending the weekend organising lift tickets. Collingwood works well when you want a walk, a little time in town and an early return to your room. The bay gives the trip its sense of space. On a windy day, it also gives you a very good reason to keep the outing short.
Stay: Living Stone Golf Resort
Living Stone is a practical, value-oriented base rather than a luxury lodge. Its designated pet rooms must be booked directly by phone. The policy allows one dog per room with no maximum size, charges C$50 per night for up to three nights and may require vaccination paperwork. For a two-night weekend, allow C$100 for the published pet charge, and ask about tax.
The crucial rule: dogs cannot be left unattended in the room. Pets are excluded from the restaurant, spa and pool areas, and must be leashed or in a carrier in public areas. Do not book a couples' spa afternoon unless you have separately arranged suitable care. Nor should you assume the same pet terms apply to sister property Living Water Resort & Spa. Walk: Harbourview Park or a short Georgian Trail section
The Town explicitly includes dog walkers among users of its multi-use trail network, with dogs leashed and under control. For winter, it identifies Harbourview Park trails and the Georgian Trail as the exceptions to its general lack of recreational-trail maintenance. These are groomed when enough snow is available to pack; they are not plowed or sanded.
That distinction matters. A groomed snow surface can still be slippery, and a waterfront walk can feel much colder than the hotel's parking lot. Pick a short out-and-back, assess the surface immediately and keep enough energy for the return. Some local trail sections are designated for snowmobiles, so follow signs, keep the leash short and do not drift into ski tracks. Town trail maps, etiquette and winter-maintenance details.
Make it feel like a getaway: take your first walk in daylight rather than saving every outdoor moment until after shopping. Bring a flask, pause where there is shelter and choose your turnaround by comfort, not a target distance. A twenty-minute walk with lovely light can be the best part of the trip.
Meals and care need their own plan
For this hotel, takeout is the straightforward fallback: one person collects it while the other stays with the dog, or arrange delivery where available. Solo travellers should settle the food plan before arrival. Do not rely on a summer patio list to solve a February dinner.
If you want a separate restaurant meal or ski session, search the Paw Rewards directory for local care options, then ask about weekend intake, trial visits, vaccinations and pickup times. A listing is a starting point, not confirmation that a visitor's dog can be accepted at short notice.
Two-night plan: Friday is for checking in and an easy neighbourhood outing. Saturday gets one main trail walk, a warm lunch and a restful afternoon. Sunday can be a different short walk before leaving, provided road conditions still support the drive home. You do not need to add Blue Mountain to make this weekend complete.
3. Kingston: a waterfront suite and a woodland morning

Kingston suits travellers who like their nature with a comfortable city base. Instead of building the entire trip around a resort's activities, use a suite as your retreat and choose between short urban outings and a more substantial woodland walk. It is the longest drive of these three, so two nights make far more sense than a rushed overnight.
Stay: Residence Inn Kingston Water's Edge
The hotel's official Marriott listing allows two pets per room, each up to 50 kg, with a non-refundable C$100 pet fee per stay. Its suites include kitchenettes and separate living and sleeping areas, useful when you would rather prepare a simple meal than organise care for every restaurant visit. Confirm your room's exact kitchen equipment before deciding what groceries to bring.
Ask the hotel directly about unattended-pet rules and which common areas your dog may enter. The public overview does not settle those questions. Parking is separately charged, so compare the full stay cost rather than only the room rate. Official accommodation and pet policy.
Walk: Lemoine Point Conservation Area
For the main outing, drive to Lemoine Point. Cataraqui Conservation describes 11 km of four-season trails across woodland, fields and shoreline, with terrain ranging from flat to gently rolling. Dogs must remain leashed, visitors must stay on marked trails, and access is during daylight only. The important winter qualification is explicit: trails are not winter-maintained or groomed.
Select a short route from the current map rather than trying to cover the entire network. Respect restoration barriers and posted closures. If the surface is icy or the wind makes the shoreline unpleasant, turn back; the advantage of a city-based holiday is having a comfortable alternative nearby. Lemoine Point visitor details and official trail maps.
Closer to the hotel, keep waterfront sightseeing flexible. The City lists a pathway closure near 1102 King Street West with a sidewalk diversion, and seasonal waterfront washrooms should not be assumed open in winter. Check the City's current trail notices before choosing a longer route. Stay well back from the water and ice.
A leisurely Saturday: breakfast in the suite, a daylight visit to Lemoine Point, then lunch and a rest. Later, take a short walk through the downtown streets if conditions suit. Save any dog-free museum or restaurant visit for a time when a travelling companion or confirmed caregiver can stay with your dog. Do not turn an appealing attraction into an improvised unattended-room experiment.
The small details that make a winter weekend work
Pack a dedicated dog towel, familiar bedding, enough regular food, a spare leash, water and bowls. Keep the towel accessible at the room entrance so salt and wet snow stay away from hotel linens. Bring whatever coat or paw protection your dog already uses comfortably, rather than introducing unfamiliar equipment at the trailhead.
Build your budget from the whole stay: two room nights, pet charges, taxes, parking, fuel, food, any park admission or rentals and care if needed. Request the exact pet room and written terms before paying a non-refundable rate. A hotel with a lower nightly price can cost more once a per-night pet fee and meals are added.
Choose refundable arrangements where possible, and leave Sunday's schedule loose. Check Ontario 511 road conditions before both drives. Trail permission is not a guarantee of good footing, and a winter photograph is not a live snow report.
Plan the weekend around your dog
Start with one destination, two nights and one main outdoor activity. Add the room requirements, meal plan and your dog's usual pace to the Pawtastic Vacation Planner. Use the Paw Rewards directory to investigate stays and local services, then verify availability and policies with the businesses themselves.
For your next escape, return to Seasonal Adventures With Your Dog. The goal is a weekend you both enjoy, with enough room in it to slow down.
