Chicory Root

What it actually is
The root of the chicory plant, dried and ground or extracted for its inulin content. Inulin is a soluble fibre that human and animal digestive systems cannot break down — but beneficial gut bacteria can.
Why it's used in dog food
Feeds beneficial gut bacteria (Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli), supporting digestion, immune function, and stool quality.
A bit of history
Chicory has been cultivated since ancient Egypt. Its use as a prebiotic in pet food began in the late 1990s when the gut microbiome became a research focus.
