Located near the scenic Canadian Rockies in Calgary, Alberta, Highwood Kennel is dedicated to breeding and showing champion American Staffordshire Terriers and American Pit Bull Terriers. Our primary focus is on exceptional temperament, correct structure, and robust health.We hold a deep appreciation for the classic type and aesthetic of Amstaff kennels from the 80s and 90s, breeding back to those foundation lines when possible to improve each generation. We believe the American Pit Bull Terrier and Amstaff should embody their original purpose and we prioritize a strong, well-muscled rear and powerful, toned shoulders. We strive for a large, blocky, chiseled head with defined cheek muscles and correct eye shape, and aim for a wide, full forechest and a deep chest that falls below the elbow.We are committed to preserving the integrity of the breed while ensuring our dogs are healthy, sound, and wonderful companions that get along with all family members and other pets in the home.

Why this breed
To preserve and improve healthy, sound, breed-typical dogs with stable temperaments and the ability to succeed as companions, show dogs, and sport partners. I first saw an American Pit Bull Terrier in a book when I was a child and was completely taken by the appearance. I bothered my parents until they broke down and we got our first.
What sets us apart
Highwood combines breed-appropriate health testing, championship conformation experience, and hands-on mentorship in dog sports if that interests you. Every breeding and placement is approached with purpose. We don't place our puppies based on color but instead we match the energy level and lifestyle of the home to that of a puppy. We do try to align your preferred color and sex in the process if possible.
