About Gellert Kennel
Purposeful breeding.
Lifetime commitment.
Gellert Kennel is a small home-based kennel in Chilliwack, BC striving to fulfill our passion for Mini American Shepherds. Our breeding program is centered on producing well-rounded Mini American Shepherds that excel as loving family companions while maintaining the qualities needed for success in the show ring or while doing various sports.
We carefully evaluate each pairing with the goal of preserving the breed’s integrity and versatility. Our dogs are raised in a family environment, ensuring they develop strong bonds with people and the balanced personalities that make the Mini American Shepherd such an exceptional companion.
Breeder Philosophy
How we breed — and why.
Why this breed
Most of all because we love the breed. Through this passion we are determined to preserve the breed and focus on breeding dogs that are healthy in body and mind. In my childhood, I experienced the detrimental impact backyard breeding can have on innocent young dogs, and am determined to breed dogs that live long and healthy lives.
What sets us apart
I put a lot of emphasis on health testing (OFA/CHIC on my breeding dogs) as well as ensuring no negative traits (such as separation anxiety or fear aggression) is passed on. This on top of my very hands on approach to raising puppies that are confident and brave make my puppies ideal for families.
Homes we look for
I require previous dog knowledge for all of my homes. MAS are incredibly smart, and typically not suitable for a first time dog owner. On top of that having a yard is also one of my must haves, but feel free to reach out to me if not. Occasionally, I have pups suited for apartment living.

Program notes
My puppies are raised as part of the family. On the daily they experience the busy goings of a family with children, farm animals, the vacuum noises, and music playing. This daily routine, along with ENS and the amazing Puppy Culture program sets them up to be confident in themselves and in their surroundings. I am passionate about setting these puppies up for success, and am a firm believer in the impact those first few months can make.
