Every great idea starts with a question.

Ours started with one that changed everything.

“What do breeders need?”

Two years ago, someone asked me that simple yet incredibly complicated question.

I paused.

In all my years breeding Border Collies, and throughout a lifetime spent with dogs, no one had ever asked what responsible breeders actually needed. We spend so much of our lives focused on producing healthy puppies, supporting our owners, and protecting the future of our breeds that we rarely stop to think about ourselves.

For decades, responsible breeders have often been painted as the villains. We've quietly stepped back while the conversation focused almost exclusively on rescue. And while I firmly believe every dog deserves a safe, loving home, I also know another truth.

I know responsible breeders.

I know the people who would drive across Canada to bring one of their dogs home if an owner could no longer care for them—and many have.

I know the breeders who miss holidays because they have a litter due.

Who sleep beside the whelping box for two weeks.

Who celebrate every milestone, mourn every loss, and remain a lifelong resource for every puppy they produce.

I know this because I've lived it.

But I also know what it feels like to enter the breeding community.

The questions.

The judgment.

The endless comparisons.

The social media drama that often makes all breeders look intimidating, divided, or unapproachable.

Somewhere along the way, we forgot that we're all here because we love our breeds.

I wanted to change that conversation.

Not by arguing louder, but by building something better.

Paw Privileges was created to showcase the very best of responsible breeding—not just breeders who complete health testing and produce exceptional dogs, but breeders who are generous with their knowledge, kind to new owners, supportive of one another, and committed to leaving our breeds stronger than we found them.

Because responsible breeding isn't just about producing puppies.

It's about building lifelong relationships.

It's about education.

It's about mentorship.

It's about celebrating owners who choose to do things responsibly and giving them the tools to succeed.

My vision extends far beyond a breeder directory.

I've worked for 2 years to build an ecosystem where breeders and owners grow together.

A place filled with education, rewards, adventures, memories, community partners, exclusive offers, and meaningful connections.

A place where responsible ownership is celebrated, not judged.

Where kindness matters just as much as credentials.

Where every member of our community can continue learning, sharing, and giving back.
